Shut Down Your Computer or Put it to Sleep?

Time is a precious commodity and it seems we fill our days much more quickly now, with work, family, appointments, and the day-to-day business of life.

At the end of the work day, or when you have completed a task, shutting down your computer could cost you precious time. When you shut down, you wait for all of the programs and applications to close in order for it to shut down, only to have to have them reopen the next time you use your computer. This takes up a lot of time. If you leave your computer on all the time, you will be wasting electricity as well as leaving your computer open to a security risk.

The solution is to put your computer to sleep. This is a relatively simple task. You usually do this by clicking Start, Power and then Sleep. You can also press the computer’s power button once. Don’t hold the button down, this will completely power off and shut your computer down. Just press it once quickly. If it is a laptop, simply close the lid.
